This weekend in worship Jesus will be tempted in the wilderness. His temptation will be to think solely about himself. The tempter is looking for where Jesus feels most vulnerable. Does Jesus worry about food? Is Jesus desperate for attention? Does Jesus feel vulnerable unless he has power? The tempter is looking for an angle to undermine Jesus’s leadership and get him to not think beyond himself. In the forty days in the wilderness Jesus overcomes the tempter by proclaiming that his trust ultimately rests in God.
Let Us Pray: Father in Heaven, give us the strength of Jesus who saw the wiles of the tempter and recommitted to trusting You. Help us to trust You in spite of the temptations that confront us daily. May our forty days of Lent makes us stronger people of faith. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
