One of the great stories in the Bible is the story of Esther. In this story there is a time where Esther wishes she wasn’t around for this, she wishes that she hadn’t been born to have to live through these times. The task of being a queen and of saving her own Jewish people from a huge empire just seems overwhelming to her. But her uncle Mordecai says to her: “Perhaps you were born for a time just like this.” Mordecai tried to instill in her the idea that she was born for this and this was her moment and that God would give her the skills she would need. Herb Brooks, the coach of the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team, told his players “You were born for this!” Great moments are not made by great people they are made by ordinary people trusting the gifts around them and risking great things. Great moments are made great by the faithful.
Let us pray: Help us, Heavenly Father, to not be overwhelmed by the news and the tasks before us but let us tackle them with faith in you, a trust of the Body of Christ, and resilience. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
