We get offered books all the time from people cleaning out their parents’ or grandparents’ estates. We get offered sets of encyclopedias which we politely decline. Because of the world wide web encyclopedias have become unnecessary – like phone books. But I remember when encyclopedias were the go to for wanting to know things and how they were the authority and they were in agreement. Today people seek out the facts that mean they won’t have to change their opinion. We seek designer facts that confirm biases. The closer we get to Jesus, our reference source for what it means to be Christian, the less we are able to justify our biases, our racisms, our sexisms, our idols.
Let Us Pray: Father in Heaven, for Jesus’ sake humble us to the love Jesus shows the whole world. May our citizenship in Your world inform our beliefs and actions. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
