Outreach- Back to School through 9/25
The Outreach Committee's school project this year will be collecting socks, sweatpants, and underwear for the Primary grades K-2nd and tennis shoes and boots for grades K-5th. The shoe sizes needed are 11 child through 6 youth. These items will be divided between the Hayward Schools and the LCO School. For those wondering the reason why we are no longer collecting backpacks and school supplies is because another church has started collecting and donating those items. In talking with the schools, socks, underwear, shoes and boots are needed. We will be collecting items through September 25.
Book suggestion to help kids (and adults) get in a good spirit toward this outreach opportunity: Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts; illustrated by Noah Z. Jones (Candlewick Press) All Jeremy wants is a pair of those shoes, the shoes everyone at school seems to be wearing. But his grandma tells him they don’t have any room for “want,” just “need,” and what Jeremy needs are new boots for winter. In this warm and very real story, a young boy realizes that the things he has - warm boots, a loving grandma, and a good friend - are worth more than the things he wants.
