  • Kick-Off (everyone in congregation) – September 28, 9:30am-noon
  • Terrific Tuesday (K-5) – start October 14, 3:15-5:00pm
  • 9th Grade Confirmation Class & their parents – October 8 & 15, 6:30-8:00pm
  • 6th-8th Grade Confirmation – start October 22, 6:00-7:15pm
  • Confirmation Sunday – October 26, 9:30am worship
  • High School (9-12) – start October 29, 7:00-8:00pm
  • Christmas Pageant – December 14, 9:30am worship

Church Council Update on Long-range Plan

Church Council Update. At the August council meeting, members reviewed the recent vote on the long-range plan. Three items made the 70% vote threshold required to move forward. These included:

  1. Hiring a full-time Youth & Family Coordinator
  2. 2.Making Audio-Visual Tech a paid staff position
  3. 3.Replacing overhead fans in the sanctuary/narthex

Council members will now take the next steps to put these initiatives into a timeline, as well as solicit volunteers from our church family to serve on a task force addressing item #1. The purpose of this task force will be to conduct a feasibility study on hiring a full-time Youth & Family Coordinator. Several items received around 60% of the vote and will be referred to various church committees for future consideration.

Exciting changes in Children, Youth & Family at First Lutheran!

Amanda Stevenson has answered the call to lead Terrific Tuesdays and Julie Jolivette will continue leading Confirmation and be able to give more energy to High School Ministry this year. Last January First Lutheran voted to increase the CYF Budget so that this change could happen. Church Council and Personnel Committee are grateful and excited for this opportunity to serve our young families better and encourage everyone to continue holding this important ministry in your prayers and giving.

INTRODUCING AMANDA STEVENSON AS THE CYF TERRIFIC TUESDAY COORDINATOR

You may recall me better from the time I wore a beard and made my debut playing Jospeh for last year’s Christmas pageant.

I am originally from the St. Croix Valley Area of Wisconsin. The area is known for its beautiful national scenic riverway and Interstate State Park.

So beautiful that my husband and I choose that as the backdrop for our wedding. The area is also know for its Holy Cross formation in fractured Precambrian basalt cliffs on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix Dalles.

I spent much of my early adulthood traveling and living abroad in Guam. My background is in fire fighting, EMS, and dental assisting.

After moving to Hayward, I had my two daughters and focused on caring for them primarily. I currently work as an EMT at their school and help coach sports they participate in. In my free time I enjoy the outdoors, reading, cooking, volunteering where I am needed and spending time with friends and my family.

Our family feels at home at First Lutheran and we have enjoyed seeing our daughter’s faith grow over the years. I would like that to continue and to give the opportunity for other families to find or expand their faith. I am honored and privileged to be leading Terrific Tuesday. Rest assured, I am in good hands with guidance and assistance and am looking forward to this exciting year.
